Our Story

Rex Jesse White Jr. and Aleece Jolene Sobrio met in March 2002. Rex had just gotten home from serving a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Baltimore, Maryland. Aleece was a part-time college student at Snow College South in Richfield, Utah and worked full-time. Rex and Aleece had been pen pals for 2 years before they met that March. Aleece's friend named Chris Peterson went on his mission and met Rex while in the MTC. They were talking and Chris showed Rex Aleece's picture. Rex asked for her address so he could start writing to her. It was a surprise for Aleece who received a letter one day from an Elder she did not know, Elder White. Rex and Aleece became good friends over the two years they wrote letters. During that time Aleece sent Rex more pictures of her, her family and her friends, while Rex wrote letters about the mission and sent pictures of himself with the people he had had the opportunity to baptize. One package Aleece sent had a cassette tape of her singing some church songs. Rex wrote back asking her to sing at his homecoming that next March. So the first time they met in person was when Aleece came in on a Greyhound bus to sing for his homecoming. She got into town on a Friday. The picture shown here is Rex and Aleece's first picture together. They were about to leave for dancing in Portland at Club FX. It was in a way, love at first sight. By Saturday night Rex was already head over heals... it was then that they were sitting watching a movie and he was holding Aleece's hand... he signed (sign language) "I love you." She didn't know how to respond with out being corny, but she figured why not, so she signed "I love you" right back. The next day before and during church Rex and Aleece shared looks of twitterpation and adoration. Aleece sang in sacrament meeting "Learn of Me." She was very nervous, especially in front of Rex's family. That day before every one came over to the house Rex told Aleece that he didn't want to experience life with out her by his side and wanted to be married. Aleece accepted and they were both very happy. Rex said that he wanted to ask Aleece's dad for her hand before announcing their engagement, but that was short lived, since Rex's family had lots of questions about how serious they were. After all they were holding hands a lot, and just a kiss or two.... or three or four... or, you get the point. They were in love and it was obvious. Rex and Aleece can't exactly remember how the beans were spilled, but it ended up that every one knew they were in love and were going to be married, but that nothing was official until Rex asked Tony Sobrio (Aleece's dad). Rex flew down to Utah to visit with Aleece and her family that May. He asked her dad for her hand. Tony was delighted to have Rex as a son in law, and gave an absolute yes, with one little side note: "Aleece can be very stubborn but she is always stubborn for a righteous purpose." Rex had already gotten to know Aleece's determination and how strongly she stood for her beliefs, from the two years of reading her letters, so this was no surprise. Rex proposed to Aleece at her favorite place... off the shore of Fish Lake, in Utah. Which is surrounded by quake and aspens (sp?). It was a beautiful day (May 3rd 2002) He picked the most perfect ring. Obviously, Aleece accepted and they began planning right away! Rex and Aleece were sealed for eternity on February 6, 2003 in the Manti, Utah LDS Temple.
